Hendrickson Dark

The "Hendrickson Dark" dry fly is designed to imitate the male Ephemerella subvaria mayfly, often referred to as the Hendrickson. This variation specifically targets the darker and slightly smaller males of the species during their hatch period, which usually coincides with that of the females in late spring. The fly features a darker body, typically in shades of reddish-brown or dark tan, complemented by dark dun hackles and upright wings that mirror the natural insect's appearance. Anglers use the Hendrickson Dark in Eastern North American streams and rivers, where these mayflies are abundant. It's particularly effective in the late afternoon and early evening when male mayflies are most active, providing a prime opportunity for targeting rising trout that are selective to these specific hatches.
